Conservatory

Spurred on by the dining room we thought we'd do the conservatory too....
This is what it looked like when we looked at the house:

But for some reason they took the floor with them! Yes, the floor!

Again, it was dark silk paint. We had learnt our lesson from the dining room, so did 3 coats of white. This is it after 2 coats:

Then we added a bit of colour (after the three white coats)

A little update:

Update (January 2014)

We had a floor fitted last year

Then we bought some new furniture from a community recycling centre ready for up cycling

And ta-da!!!! All finished!!

Dining room

We started to decorate the dining room, as we had bought a new table.
Here's what it looked like before:

But it looked more like this in real life when we moved in:

Then we got our temporary table:

And eventually our new table:

When we started painting we didn't know what a nightmare it would be! The previous owners had used silk paint, and it was really dark, just to make it extra difficult to cover. It wasn't helped by me spending ages to pick paint, only to then refuse to pay £40 for a tin! So, I tried to match it with a cheap one.... But when it dried it turned yellow! We added LOADS of white for the 4th & 5th coat (yes that's how many it needed!), and are sticking with it!

Our new bargain curtains:

A little update!

Final photos to follow :)

The Scullery & Lean to (phase 1)

Apologies, there's going to be a lot of photos!
We took a week off to start decorating the 'back rooms' of the house - a hallway (aka lean to) and utility room (aka scullery).

Before:

(Lean to walls)

(Scullery)

(Lean to ceiling)

Sanding all the flaky paint off

After the first coat of damp proof paint. This was incredibly hard to do, because the paint was so thick. This is in the scullery.
After the second coat of damp proof paint & two coats of regular white paint.

After 2 hours of painting rendered walls (after two coats of brick sealant)

Then, more painting....

This was fairly early on in the week, when we were still happy, full of energy & optimistic

On Wednesday Dave went off to scouts & I continued painting! COLOUR!!!! Whoop!!

Dave then decided it would be a good time to pull the old door frame out....

....which had been there for a long long time. The nails were concreted in to the floor!

We have also started painting in the lean to (the purple walls) but another coat is needed.
Dave has worked very hard putting in lights & sockets & trunking.

We've mostly got finishing touches to do now - finish painting the new door & hang it, put the top coat in the lean to, touch up scuffs etc, then it will be time to sort the floor out!!!!

Watch this space :)
